Lana Del Rey’s music has always seemed to immerse itself in a certain old world decadence and luxury, so it’s completely unsurprising that director Baz Luhrmann would tap the young songwriter to contribute a song to his upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
looking for a valentine’s day playlist? this one is part heartwarming, part heartbreaking and part heart thumbing. enjoy!
When my friend tells me I only hate Valentine’s Day because I have no one to share it with
I want to hate Lana Del Rey. The more I listen to her music, however, the more I realize my hate is rooted in complete jealousy. I want to live a life that could be appropriately soundtracked by the music of Lana Del Rey.
Lana continues to solidify herself as the sexual songstress of our day with ‘Paradise,’ a short EPish album of moody, mysterious and overtly sensual tracks.
The first few times I listened to this album I tried to make sense of her lyrics. The thing is, I’m pretty sure she writes out the first thing that comes to mind, calls it good and makes it a song. Strangely, this seems to work really well. Her lyrics remain unabashedly primal in a way, playing right in to the kinky pin-up world she’s created.
Fave Tracks:
Yayo - One part phatasmagoric, two parts orgasmic.
Blue Velvet - What a perfect cover for Lana Del Rey!! I have no complaints.
Christina has proven her incredible range over and over. She’s revealed her cute, then rockin, then thick voluptuous bod. She’s shown she plays well with others - at least as far as music is concerned.
So what’s left? Judging by ‘Lotus’, not a whole lot.
It’s as if she got some pop-tastic beats, pulled her friends together (friends=’The Voice’ costars Cee-Lo and Blake Shelton) and held a playdate at the inner city park.
Don’t get me wrong, the songs are fun. But there are no adorable ‘Genie in a Bottle’ moments; no arousing ‘Dirty’ tracks; no introspective tunes like ‘Beautiful’. It’s just…not exciting. X-tina has been giving out so much advice on ‘The Voice’ that perhaps she feels she has nothing left to learn herself.
‘Lotus’ is good. Chick can SANG, no doubt. But if you’re looking for something that’s going to move you anywhere other than on the dance floor at your local 18 and over club, keep searching.
Fave Tracks:
Your Body - I hate when my favorite song is the first single. But, sometimes that’s just how it goes.
Just A Fool (feat Blake Shelton) - This song is sweet, thanks mostly to Blake. Their voices compliment each other very well, proving they can make magic on the charts as well as in the ratings.
